Keyboard / Piano

Anybody here play keyboard or piano?

I just got a keyboard and have been trying to teach myself. I'm okay at reading the treble bits on the right hand, but I'm terrible with the left. How do I chord/bass?

I have a keyboard in my apartment, and I learned how to play Don't Stop Believing, but thats mostly it. I really should learn to play more. Took lessons as a kid but I haven't retained much from that, and I'm painfully slow at reading sheet music since I don't really do it ever.

Training is really all there is to it, as long as you've got the basic understanding of how it works covered.

I used to play piano, but haven't really been active musically in years. I still occasionlly sit by the piano and play a bit, but by now I've probably atrophiated to being worse at reading than you are.

Also, the most difficult part for me about piano was always the fact that my hands were no longer collaborating on doing the same thing as on guitar, but instead doing it's own "unrelated" thing. Shit get's confusing.

Although sadly I have really small hands so stretching them across the keys doesn't work very well.

Did you have a teacher when you started, IC, or did you teach yourself?

Had a teacher for one year, which was the only time I was rather active. So you really shouldn't look to me for any advice. :haha:

Except that contemporary classical music is awesome to play. Might as well learn that sooner rather than later.

You play it pretty much like the right hand, only opposite? It really depends on the piece, whether you're just playing a second, bassier melody, chords, broken chords or whatever.
(My music-terminology knowledge is a mix between stuff I know in english, stuff I know in not english and stuff I know in enlish and not english - and it's all rather weak. If broken chords isn't a real phrase, I mean something like arpegios [on guitars], where you have chord, but play it note for note.)

Well, the left hand usually uses bass notes which I'm slower at reading than treble, plus, I dunno, I haven't built the co-ordination to reverse it, haha.
