I don't know if it's exactly what you are doing, Carl'sCock, but you should listen to Skeletal Lamping by Of Montreal. It's amazing and what I might call "post-pop."

So I met this girl from North Carolina last night. Sweet chick, really pretty, I think her name was Katy. She tried to explain to me all the states and how they fit together and then I realised...I can barely name all 9 of our provinces how the hell am I going to remember the states names and locations and all that jazz.

I think it's a little worse that you don't remember her name than you don't remember our state's names :p
Pretty much every American ever has a hard time remembering every state off the top of their head

She pronounced a bit weird for me so I wasn't sure if it's Cady or Katy but I do know her surname, May, since she said she is going to switch her middle name with her maiden name when she gets married.

I'll try to name all the states off the top of my head (obviously without a reference sheet):
Alabama Alaska Arizona Arkansas Atlanta California Colorado Delaware Florida Georgia Hawaii Idaho Illinois Iowa Kansas Kentucky Louisiana Maine Maryland Massachusetts Michigan Mississippi Montana Nebraska Nevada New Hampshire New Jersey?? <- A bit skeptical about this one New Mexico New York North Carolina North Dakota Oklahoma Oregon Pennsylvania Rhode Island South Carolina South Dakota Tennessee Texas Utah Vermont Virginia Washington West Virginia Wisconsin Wyoming That's that. I can't remember for the life of me the name of the state Dorothy (and the wizard, mind you) from The Wizard of Oz comes from. It's so silly, too, I'll remember an hour from now and be all like, "OH THAT'S WHAT IT IS! It was so obvious, too!". KANSAS! IT'S FREAKING KANSAS! I knew I'd discover two states by finding the first (Arkansas); my brain was just being a little bitch and the name was the cognitive equivalent of a poo trying to come out after one not eating enough fiber. Happens all the time that I forget really simple words. That said, I'm still missing 5 4 states.

That sounds really cool Carl, are you gonna release it somehow?
Tbh I think geography that isn't basic is kinda useless for almost everyone. Why do you need to know the exact location of things off the top of your head? Like I can normally point to the general vicinity of a country/state and I don't see why you'd need anything else, especially with how easy it is to google it now. I was really good in US history but I remember I got a C on the naming/placing states and their capitols test. My teacher was real disappointed. |
