Our bass-player knows someone who works at a radio station or something and apparently that's a thing according to them.

From my understanding the "Top 40" songs they play are really just the 40 songs that record labels are paying the radio station the most to play. (Maybe it doesn't work directly this way, but it is related to record label push.) I'm not sure if they really have any interest in playing material from startup bands. I think a rock station would be more likely to have a sense of community where they want to encourage smaller acts.Well I say top 40 stations but what I really mean is stations that happen to play top 40 songs. Basically, our song could be followed by a Lady Gaga song or something. I honestly believe it would be a much better idea to start off on rock or community radios like you say, personally, but whatever. It's not like we're internationally commercial either, because we're a French-language band, but there are stations that mix Francophone music with international acts and I think that's what we're aiming for.
How long was your song originally and what are you editing it down to?
Our "real" version is going to be nearly five minutes long, and our radio edit is almost flush at four minutes.
