I feel a lot of the folks who are vocal about that usually grew up in a very religious family and/or community. So them becoming atheist is their act of rebellion, and end up having a huge chip on their shoulder towards religion. Some people outgrow that phase, and others never do.
Usually the people who didn’t grow up in a strict religious environment are pretty nonchalant towards religion.
That's true, but how do you know some of the "chip" is something that people had coming? For instance, a lot of molestation in the Catholic church, and honestly, other ones also. Well, myself, I've heard at least one freakish story, even from smaller churches in my area.
