Sunn O))))) is cool, but definitely not noise.
It's kind of hard to list noise artists as there's not really much of a national scene and (for me at least) it's far more enjoyable to experience live. So go find your local underground noise venue, pick up a pair of ear plugs, and go have your genitals tingled by pure sonic aggression.

His live stuff I've seen typically involves a lot of contact mics and household objects being amplified extraordinarily. Then distorted, loud vocals that are impossible to make out and sound like a voice from Hell. Oooh, found a video (but remember this is far more theatrical than most artists), and I'm serious: if you don't have your volume up really high, you're not getting the full effect. Problem with a lot of this is there's not many good quality videos of live performances. Well the video is ok, it's just that cell phone microphones will instantly fold under the sheer volume of this stuff. It's all kind of like "performance art" except with the attitude of a lot DIY punk/metal scenes. Obviously, it's not the kind of thing that a lot of people are going to really jump right into. Really, just watch the documentary in the first post if you want a far better explanation than I could provide. |
