@Phils: You can do it.
High school (lol) stories that are similar: I've decided that meeting girls at school is the worst way to do it because during class there are so many barriers that prevent you from making progress and if you don't act quickly it's just too late (and you will still have to be in class with her all semester/year to remind you of your failure). At the beginning of the year there was this attractive girl who I didn't even notice (she sat behind me, but the teacher has the class set up to where our backs are turned) and when we had to do a group project she came to me and was really excited to talk to me. Since I hadn't even seen her before I was very surprised. Then I blew it by doing the work and taking it seriously instead of flirting and all that (typical me lol). You are better than me though, Phils.
The girl I was infatuated with all last year is no longer in any classes with me (which is good), and she is as socially awkward as I am so there are certain 'rules' I can bend to my advantage. I am pretty sure I heard her and her sister talking about me (they were walking behind me about ten feet away), saying things like 'just go talk to him lol' so I am stupid if I don't do something. There is nothing I can do about it though because I can never find an appropriate time since I only ever see her walking by during the five minute break to go to class.
So yeah, meeting girls at school is impossible. I'm just going to hold off all of this stuff until university (in case I relocate), and once in university, only meet girls outside of school. /seventeen year old banter.
In other words my confidence is way up too. I'm actually making an impact on people instead of being 'just there' (and I know I'm doing good because I have a distinct group of 'haters' 8) )
