No.
For example: One of the characters is from the main character's past. (The main character is named Layfon.) And this guy and some girl are driving along a highway in this car. Monsters keep trying to attack the car, but it's too fast for them to catch up. And the guy is apparently this mercenary now. Or maybe he's hunting something. I don't know...
From what I can figure out, Layfon used to be a "Heaven's Blade" (an elite warrior). The world is filled with contaminoids (giant bug things), so humans fly around in these ship-cities called "regios". So, Layfon was a Heaven's Blade, but got sick of the constant fighting. He ran away and ended up at the academy in a different regio. (Running away technically makes him a traitor to his home regio.) And despite the fact that he doesn't want to fight, events keep outpacing him. He was pulled into the military arts discipline, for instance. (It's basically young officer training.) And then contaminoids attacked the city. He keeps having to save his friends, because he's the only one with any real battle experience.
Anyway, I can't figure out this guy from Layfon's past is trying to find Layfon. Or maybe he's doing something totally different. They don't explain much, except for brief flashbacks where Layfon and this guy are both featured.
