Nothing seemed to be out of place or anything either, so I don't think the movie is required. If I understand it correctly, the movie is basically a prelude. But it's not required.
It's kind of like how you don't need to read the Hobbit to get the Lord of the Rings. Yeah, a few things make more sense (like how Bilbo found the ring and so on), but the story of the Hobbit, while connected to the LotR's books, isn't required to read the LotR. On the other hand, you clearly have to read the 1st LotR book before you read the 2nd and 3rd. This is kind of the same way, I think. The movie helps explain a few things, but you shouldn't have an issue if you just jump straight into the show.
