I dunno what the hell that girl was thinking. But I guess people call in bomb threats to their schools to get out of class and other dumb shit, so clearly not every IS thinking.

I mean, I don't see what would be in it for him by lying about it.

My cousin is in his high school's JROTC and he's wayyyy too into it. I feel kind of bad for him, as he believes that being in JROTC makes him a shoo-in for real ROTC and a shoo-in for enlisting, which sadly is far from the truth. Especially when he wants to do the Air Force which is harder to get in.

I don't want to make him sound dumb, but he's pretty average in school, so I do know he has no chance for AFROTC, but he can buckle down for enlisting.

It was between that and PE. Really, they hardly did any physical work, so it worked out.

We only had JROTC. I kinda enjoyed it tbh. Like, I did more than most. I was a squad leader for a good while. Even flag leader for one period of time. And I was in the saber guard for 2 years. That was pretty fun. Oh I also got this ribbon for winning a question-off or whatever.

That's about it. After all that, would I be interested in enlisting? Naaaaaaaaw lol.

Well technically you can only have JROTC as ROTC is for college, and that's the real deal. It's basically just as "useless" as any other high school club, and it doesn't help you into real ROTC. That's why I think it's kind of hilarious seeing him be all gung-ho about it and he thinks he's somebody because of it.

I saw his status on Facebook about a recruiter coming to his school and he said "I talked to a recruiter today" whoopty fucking do. I do feel bad that he really wants to be an Air Force officer, but he has a snowball's chance in hell, as I couldn't get in, and he has a lower GPA than I did, and I highly doubt he can get a 30 on his ACT test. Though they probably wouldn't consider him regarding his GPA as he has to qualify in both. Also with his family's financial position, this is really his only way into college.

RE: 2 pɐǝɹɥʇ ʎʇıunɯɯoɔ - Danjo - 04-15-2014

At least I know that if I ever for some reason wanted to be in the military I could go into whatever the fuck I wanted. (Well I think I'm too tall to be pilot in the airforce, unless that isn't an issue anymore. I know I'm too tall to be an astronaut.)

And your instructor might not have even known if it was true or not. Thats how urban legends work.

RE: 2 pɐǝɹɥʇ ʎʇıunɯɯoɔ - Grungie - 04-15-2014

Well you could do other jobs in the Air Force besides pilot, like intel is always a good job. Though the military is really downsized right now, largely cuz there's no war going on, so they're kicking a lot of people out and they're also not really taking a lot of people in, so they're pretty picky right now.

RE: 2 pɐǝɹɥʇ ʎʇıunɯɯoɔ - Danjo - 04-15-2014

Well yeah, but I could easily ace the ASVAB. Fitness would probably be my biggest limitation, but I'm reasonably fit. I would probably be intelligence though, or something. Honestly my skill set is not well suited to the military, haha. Which is why I would never actually join. Just saying that if I did, I'd at least have options.

RE: 2 pɐǝɹɥʇ ʎʇıunɯɯoɔ - Grungie - 04-15-2014

Unless you're a Marine, or in certain jobs it's really not that physically demanding unless you're really out of shape.

A lot of people are completely clueless about the military and think it's all Full Metal Jacket shit, or all you do is drive tanks and similar shit.

RE: 2 pɐǝɹɥʇ ʎʇıunɯɯoɔ - Danjo - 04-15-2014

I've never even seen full metal jacket besides the once famous scene where the drill Sargent yells at them, haha. I definitely can't say I know what goes on in the military. I'm just under the impression that some of the special forces type things probably have high standards as far as fitness which I might not meet because I can't do 30 pullups or whatever.

RE: 2 pɐǝɹɥʇ ʎʇıunɯɯoɔ - Grungie - 04-15-2014

You only do pull-ups in the marines. The other branches PT standards are just push-ups, sit-ups, and a 1.5 mile run or the Army has 2 mile run.

Basically you really only do a lot of physical shit in boot camp, but if you do a good bit of working out, you'll be fine. I'm not very athletic, but I did Army ROTC for 2 years and I did great on the PT tests.

RE: 2 pɐǝɹɥʇ ʎʇıunɯɯoɔ - Danjo - 04-15-2014

Yeah. I dunno if I could do the pushups, but if I trained more on them I could probably get my max number up. The run would be easy at least. I couldn't do the situps at the moment because my back is fucked and a half, but it should get better eventually.
