So I took the rare opportunity to go inside of a K-Mart (wait, they're still open?) and I found out that Niki Minaj has her line of clothes or makeup over there. Like how bad do you have to be in this day and age to sell your stuff at fucking K-Mart?

RE: 2 pɐǝɹɥʇ ʎʇıunɯɯoɔ - WCPhils - 03-29-2014

The K-Mart near me still has a sign up that says "Pick up your new Nintendo Wii, today!"

And they also have a sign for HD DVDs

Possibly. I think this sometimes.

(03-27-2014, 05:17 AM)crazysam23 Wrote: Yeah, but most of us guys don't really see ourselves that way. We're not closed to a committed relationship, but (especially when we're in our early 20s) our thoughts tend to be on things other than making sure we get married or something.

Women are typically the ones who dream about being married. lol
The funny thing is I would have probably been the type of guy who would want to get married, even at a relatively early age.

(03-27-2014, 05:17 AM)crazysam23 Wrote: I think most people tend to have judgmental attitudes towards others as one their major vices.
At the same time, though, it's bad to blindly accept your perceived vision of a person without a little skepticism.

(03-27-2014, 05:17 AM)crazysam23 Wrote: Yes. But that goes back to Danjo's statement about how sex in a committed loving relationship (especially a marriage, imho) is more than just "fun". It's more deep than that.
In a long-term, committed relationship, intimacy (not just sex, but all forms of intimacy -- emotional, physical, spirital, or mental) is a much deeper thing. Because it all adds to the relationship as a whole and makes both people feel more connected.
Maybe. But again, when 42% of marriages end up in divorce, it's hard to really call any relationship "long-term" or "committed".

(03-27-2014, 05:17 AM)crazysam23 Wrote: Yes, unfortunately, the '60s kind of ruined the idea that sex was special or anything. ("Free Love" movement, not that I don't understand the reasoning behind that. I just think it's gone too far in the other direction now. It's out of balance, by far.) And now everyone wants it as often as possible. Which usually results in most of them being frustrated idiots who think with their dicks/vaginas.
Yeah, I think I might have shocked lncog a while back, but this is essentially what I was getting at when I said that the sexual revolution screwed up society from a romantic standpoint.

(also, Godwin's law happened)

(03-27-2014, 05:17 AM)crazysam23 Wrote: I don't think it would have to be unphysical to be un-hedonistic. The two aren't necessarily mutually exclusive. Hedonism implies that it's all about personal pleasure, and frankly personal pleasure isn't what love is about at all.
Yes, sex is pleasurable, but one shouldn't have sex with one's paramour just because it's pleasurable. That's NOT the main point at all. If a relationship becomes all about the physical, that's when it should be re-examined and changes should be made in one's own actions (and possibly morals/merits).
True, though I guess I was misusing the term "hedonistic"; rather, I was talking about a carnal, materialistic relationship. If that makes any sense. The whole "material goods" type of hedonism.

I'm also aware that in the classical sense, hedonism means something entirely different and is similar to eudaemonia.

(03-27-2014, 05:17 AM)crazysam23 Wrote: Exactly. Now, if we can convince the rest of the world to keep their damn mouths shut about their sex lives...
I already have a hard time having philosophical discussions on a regular basis, hahaha.

(03-27-2014, 05:17 AM)crazysam23 Wrote: Well, let me put it this way, if everyone else decided to jump off a bridge...? Seriously, just because the "crowd" decided to not value intimacy, that's no reason for you to do the same.
But that feeds on the whole "love/sex isn't objectively meaningful" principle. The importance of sex is relativistic and therefore arbitrary. It's like being a fan of something. It sucks to be the only fan of a certain band or television show in your area. Wouldn't it be nice if you had this fanhood in common with everybody else?

I'm really not one to follow the crowd. I don't think I've met a single colleague who has never touched drugs or doesn't get drunk on the weekends. Even those who actively avoid drugs pretty much all say that it's because "they've never gotten a buzz out of them". Plus, I absolutely detest bandwagons.

(03-27-2014, 05:17 AM)crazysam23 Wrote: This only applies if you, Joel, decide to start treating sex this way. Again, just because the crowd does it this way, that doesn't mean you have to.
It's difficult not to when virtually everyone will have multiple sexual partners in their lives. If I do wind up in a relationship one day, the very notion of my then-girlfriend or spouse having had previous sexual partners (which is most likely the case) really kinda does render our sexuality trivial.

(03-27-2014, 05:17 AM)crazysam23 Wrote: And the same applies to physical acts with a committed romantic partner. I've a feeling you just aren't at a mental or emotional point where you can clearly see that.
Maybe. But my point is that virtually anything feels more special if you're doing it with a loved one.

(03-27-2014, 05:17 AM)crazysam23 Wrote: Agreed. But that's where self-examination comes into play. We all need to spend more time examining ourselves (in everything really, not just our relationships [romantic or not]) than we do judging others, imho.
True. This is why I'm very open to criticism and believe that people should be, otherwise we end up gossiping and talking behind each other's backs, which has absolutely no positive consequence, and problems aren't solved.

Heh, the one in my town closed down 7 years ago. And no one has wanted the building since then. The only K-Marts in this area are in poorer areas of St. Paul & Minneapolis.

Lol, I went to the other Walmart on the other side of town, and I looked in the video game display case and they had two BRAND NEW PS2's still there. Like... wow...

I never knew I would see the day that I could see brand new PS2, PS3 AND a PS4 right next to each other at Walmart.

So I'm writing a shoegaze/dreampop song and it's almost an ostinato, and most of the song is in the same rhythm pretty much. It doesn't seem like a bad thing, but it also just feels really lazy for me....

I'll keep pushing the song with how it's been going to see how it goes.

RE: 2 pɐǝɹɥʇ ʎʇıunɯɯoɔ - wwf - 03-31-2014

That can be cool sometimes. I don't really like it when bands interrupt a great musical passage to go into a worse one for no real reason other than they clearly ran out of ideas with the last one.

Also yeah I still like Between the Buried and Me even though they are very guilty of that occasionally.

RE: 2 pɐǝɹɥʇ ʎʇıunɯɯoɔ - Grungie - 03-31-2014

Yeah, I'm having trouble coming up with the chorus riff to make it not sound like changing just for the sake of changing....

I'm really just circulating around the A and D chords in 3/4 time and playing with the dynamics. The opening is full distorted guitars, and then they fade when the chorus starts. I'm at the end of the verse, but idk where to go from there...

I really need to figure out what key I'm in to see what chords sound good, as this are the only 3 chords I'm using so far:

0 0 0
0 0 0
2 7 6
2 7 7
0 0 0
X 0 0

Idk if you can tell if it's in A Major or Minor
