Yeah, back in the day I probably would have been that way about things, but now I try not to fanboy too hard. I think the only time I'd say something like that is if someone I really liked was in the middle of a project that I thought was going to be really awesome. Like if John Frusciante got back with the Chilis and then something happened I would be really upset.

Yea, there are very few famous people I would be upset about. A handful of musicians, maybe one or two actors.

A good amount of athletes tho. I'd probably cry if Allen Iverson died

I think I've grown up past the point of fanboying too hard.

RE: 2 pɐǝɹɥʇ ʎʇıunɯɯoɔ - Danjo - 03-24-2014

Yeah, I've definitely learned to be more relaxed about my views on things. It doesn't really bother me if people don't like the same things I do. And I don't make a big deal out of things.

Yeah, that's the thing about the internet, is that one click, you'll find people who are obsessed with it, and in another click, you'll find someone who completely hates that same thing.

I think being on UG partly taught me not to fanboy though, just because I always ended up getting my ass handed to me in arguments when I did, haha.

RE: 2 pɐǝɹɥʇ ʎʇıunɯɯoɔ - Grungie - 03-24-2014

For me it was about how people were so douchy about it on UG when I first joined.

Well with my post it's not fanboying, it's just that they mean a lot to me. It's more that I have a lot of fond memories than "OMG THEY'RE DA BEST!!!"

Like when the Phillies longtime broadcaster died a few years ago I cried a little because I had been listening to him call games my entire life and I had a lot of great memories doing so.

Also, the internet in general taught me not to be a douchebag fanboy cuz they're the most annoying people on the planet. For some reason internet people like to act like it's normal to base every interaction in their life on their own opinions. Like, does anyone actually do that in real life?

RE: 2 pɐǝɹɥʇ ʎʇıunɯɯoɔ - Grungie - 03-24-2014

Oh, I wasn't accusing you of fanboying, I actually didn't see your post when I made mine, and was responding to Danjo. Though I've never really been in that situation, so I wouldn't know.

@bolded, yes there are. I met them, and they're really irritating people to be around. This prick I met last year is a real life version of internet assholes. He's a moron, and bases all of his opinions from bandwagons on websites he visits. Like "Hail to the Thief is the only Radiohead album worth listening to, and it's the only one I've heard" like really? Or he cites what someone told him on Reddit, and specifically says "well Reddit says this!"
