RE: Anime/Manga Thread - crazysam23 - 03-28-2014 I just finished the episode before the Accelerator fight. Toma sure has a habit of making Zappy mad. lol RE: Anime/Manga Thread - Grungie - 03-28-2014 Touma's just blissfully ignorant of the women around him, and Misaka being tsundere doesn't help either. You know what's a real shocker? Stiyl is 14, meaning he's younger than Touma who's 16. So Stiyl, Index, and Misaka are the same age. RE: Anime/Manga Thread - crazysam23 - 03-28-2014 But Stiyl acts like he's in his early 20s. And he's a fucking sorceror. What is up with Animes making characters ridiculously young?! RE: Anime/Manga Thread - Grungie - 03-28-2014 Most of them are targeted towards kids and teens, so it's more relatable when the main characters are also around the same age. I totally learned this from reading Bakuman, a manga about working in the manga industry. RE: Anime/Manga Thread - crazysam23 - 03-28-2014 (03-28-2014, 01:33 PM)Grungie Wrote: Most of them are targeted towards kids and teens, so it's more relatable when the main characters are also around the same age.Eh, I guess. Seems to me, a lot of them are way too violent for kids or young teens. I mean, Toma loses his fucking arm in the episode where he beats the alchemist. Of course it gets re-attached, but still there's blood all over. How's it that appropriate for a kid? Someone 15 over above, yeah. RE: Anime/Manga Thread - Grungie - 03-28-2014 Cultural differences. Some of the really violent stuff is shied away here, but in Japan, it's alright. Cuz you'll notice that a lot of these shows are based off of manga and stuff in the shonen age demographic of 10-18, and when they come to America, it's targeted at teens. So it's kind of odd for us to realize that Death Note was in a magazine targeted at 10 year olds. So they seem more "okay" with it than we are. There's also things to consider like harem romances with tons of pantyshots are in the same magazine as Naruto and Bleach, meaning kids are also reading this. Though sometimes they do add in things in those magazines to target older kids, as younger kids tend to emulate or follow things that the older kids find cool. Also you can kind of see this in video games as well, when it's of a lower age rating in Japan than when it comes to the US. So you'll see a game that's Japan's version of E10, but when it crosses the border it's rated as either T or sometimes even M. Though there's also odd cases in America where a game like Uncharted has a ton of graphic violence and language, gets a T rating, but Persona 4 gets an M because it depicts high schoolers getting drunk, pseudo-religious imagery, and one of the enemies looks like a dick, though 90% of the game is more tame than Uncharted. RE: Anime/Manga Thread - Fantasyfanman - 03-28-2014 Are we allowed to make individual threads for anime in the entertainment section? RE: Anime/Manga Thread - Grungie - 03-28-2014 Idk, we already have an anime discussion thread for this, and there's not that many people who discuss this stuff on here. RE: Anime/Manga Thread - Fantasyfanman - 03-28-2014 Okay, I won't make a thread then. I just don't feel I have spammed enough about Flowers of Evil yet. Seriously Grungie, I think you would like that show a lot. You should watch. If you have read any of the threads I have posted on, like, all the sites I go to you will know I think any fan of anime would be able to appreciate it.
