RE: Anime/Manga Thread - Grungie - 06-24-2013 I've never had to read subtitles when I'm watching something in English RE: Anime/Manga Thread - BobSacamano - 06-24-2013 They just mispelled "parallel" as "pararel" :p RE: Anime/Manga Thread - Grungie - 06-24-2013 Sounds like you're watching bad fansubs I'm kind of scared to watch Makoto Shinkai's films after being disappointed with 5 Centimeters Per Second. Vague emotional shit set to beautiful backgrounds is not an awesome movie. Which is sad since up until the climax, I enjoyed it. RE: Anime/Manga Thread - BobSacamano - 06-24-2013 No it was the DVD. The pararel thing was on a screen, I turned off the subtitles. Yeah you'd probably hate The Place Promised then. I feel like it was probably badly written but I kinda liked it. I'm a sucker for vague quiet emotional shit with pretty pictures. "The next Miyazaki" like it said on the box is bullshit though. Speaking of that, does anyone know what themes blake was referring to with Princess Mononoke in that thread? He didn't respond and I dunno if I'm stupid and missed something. I mean obviously there were messages about preserving nature but like I said many if not most of his films have that. But I forget most of the plot's details anyway. RE: Anime/Manga Thread - Grungie - 06-24-2013 Typos on a DVD? That's bad. Though the subtitles on the DVD usually follow the Japanese script, not the English one, which is why there'll be differences. What really pissed me off about 5 Centimeters Per Second was that they threw in a plot twist at the end of the movie, it came out of nowhere and then they showed a montage of the entire film an then it ended. I can't elaborate on Princess Mononoke, I haven't seen it in years since I didn't really like it that much. What I thought was great in that thread was that he was throwin in racist statements asians and he's all about "check your privilege". RE: Anime/Manga Thread - crazysam23 - 06-24-2013 I saw Princess Mononoke a few years back. It was quite good. But I also felt it could have been a bit better. It is one of those films I would recommend to any Anime fan, but I would warn them that it's basically a story written for 6th graders. If it had been a bit more mature, then I probably would have liked it more. (I was 21 when I saw it, so that was 3 years ago.) RE: Anime/Manga Thread - Grungie - 06-24-2013 Most of his films are made for a "family audience" so everyone can enjoy it. Though he does have some films that are more kiddy than others. RE: Anime/Manga Thread - crazysam23 - 06-24-2013 (06-24-2013, 03:30 PM)Grungie Wrote: Most of his films are made for a "family audience" so everyone can enjoy it. For instance, I wouldn't really let a 6th grader watch a show like "Ghost in the Shell". In fact, even Hulu says it's for Mature Audiences. (I don't think it's that bad, but the gore is pretty realistic. First time I saw some guy get his whole foot blown off by a pistol shot [which is actually realistic if you have the right caliber bullet], I knew this wasn't a show for preteens.) RE: Anime/Manga Thread - Grungie - 06-24-2013 If you wanna see bodyparts getting blown up, you should watch Kite. The bullets explode after they go in your body. RE: Anime/Manga Thread - crazysam23 - 06-24-2013 I might give it a shot. But the bodyparts thing isn't really my goal to see. (I don't mind it either though.) It was just kind of like, "Holy shit!" when I saw that within 5 minutes of episode 1 starting. Didn't expect it at all. hrug: Pretty much you get through the opening theme of the show and then the main character shoots this guy's foot. His whole foot and ankle explode in a wash of blood. And that's like the 1st 5 minutes. The show doesn't fuck around with some intro story that ends up lame; you dive right in, lol. Edit: The only downside to GitS so far is that the main character's outfits remind me of women's swimsuits from the '80s. It works because the protagonist is a female, but it's kind of odd-looking. |
